Bloomsday Irish Youth Foundation Messanger Bike Rally

Imagine cycling throughout Dublin in the 1900s…can you picture it? Well, you can see it in person on June 7th!

Bloomsday is a celebration of James Joyce’s acclaimed novel Ulysses. The novel chronicles one day in the life of Leopold Bloom as he travels through Dublin.

The festival runs from June 2nd to June 16th and captures the spirit of Joyce’s Dublin.

Every year, the Irish Youth Foundation hosts a Messanger Bike Rally in aid children and young people in disadvantaged circumstances. Participants dress in ‘Joycian’ (Edwardian) clothing and cycle around Dublin on vintage messenger bikes – it’s definitely a sight to behold!

150 cyclists will take the the streets of Dublin on June 7th. The rally begins at Wolfe Tone corner of Stephen’s Green, passes the Mansion House for a rendition of Molly Malone. After the sing-song, they will make their way around Trinity College and towards Pearse Street. They then cycle down to Temple Bar then back up to George’s Street and back over to Stephen’s Green. They will pedal up Leeson Street to the Canal then back to the corner of Stephen’s Green via Merrion Square and finishing up at the Mansion House.

But of course, there are pit stops on the way for a sandwich and a well-deserved refreshment!

This year, The Stags Head will be one of the deserved pit-stops for participants! We may not serve a pork kidney breakfast but we will be laying out delicious sandwiches made with Brennans bread with ham and Gorgonzola cheese and a pint of the black stuff for all participants.

Join us in The Stags Head between 10.30am and 12pm June 7th to celebrate Bloomsday and support Irish Youth Foundation. It’s not to be missed!
