Whats On

Billy Treacy & The Scope (Downstairs)

Every Saturday
Billy Treacy is a Folk singer/songwriter from Dublin's Inner City. A modern day Balladeer with contemporary story songs using traditional instruments it neatly welds the past with the present. Billy Treacy & The Scope have a contemporary approach using traditional instruments to create an overall folk and roots vibe with influences stemming from The Pogues and The Dubliners as well as legends like Bob Dylan and Johnny Cash. The style is mixture of both folk and traditional and remains respectful to the past while belting them into the present with a down and dirty punk edge rather than an over-produced polished approach. The Scope are a group of musicians, some of whom regularly play with Billy while others are more transient and join in depending on the scale of the performance. They consist of Billy Treacy: Guitar & Vocals Anna Mary Donaghy: Fiddle Conor Brady: Bass Gavin Whelan: Uilleann Pipes & Whistle Jonathan Foley: Percussion & Backing Vocals Paddy Kiernan: 5 String Banjo

5 star ratingA landmark pub A landmark pub in Dublin! Old Victorian style, dark solid wood, red leather, impressive bar and a stag's head hanging over it (outside too, at the facade)...

We visited for a late lunch on a Friday, there were many customers but we managed to find a nice table. The waitress was polite and quick. We ordered our Smithwick's beers (our first try of the Smithwick's brand in our Dublin trip), a red and a pale ale and we shared the sandwich of the day: open style with salmon and side of fries. It was very good (the bread too)! We wanted the pulled pork from the regular menu but they didn't have it.

The atmosphere was the best for us travelers to get a first impression of a Dublin pub!

Prices OK, I think we paid ~23€ (incl. small tip).

5 star ratingIf you're looking for old school charm it's here! Great pub, drinks are good, staff are friendly and prompt and there is an amazing atmosphere. This pub has retained its old school charm despite being surrounded by 'modern' Dublin.
